Music frequently involves placing tiny dots on narrow lines. This is a process I have truly come to love, and I obsess over the delicacy and rigor of the notation process. However, sometimes I want to paint something in large unfocused strokes, or slap one of my own gigantic creations up on a billboard or wall. “All My Rainbows Have Babies Inside” expresses the piano as one color sloppily splattering over a canvas. The loose notation gives freedom and liberation that would be difficult to achieve had I chosen to notate specifically. I look at this piece as something I made, rather than something I composed.
